Tournament Program

Basics of TOurnament Teams

• Competitive, school-based program; boys and girls grades 4th-8th

• Season: end of October – early March

• LOHS Coaches lead player evaluations and team selection

• Teams are divided into Gold and Silver based on skill level and evaluation results

• Number of teams at each grade level is based on participation; some grades may field only one team

• Volunteer coaches grades 4th-5th; paid non-parent head & assistant coaches grades 6th-8th (based on coach availability)

• About 25 practices (2+ per week), 24+ games 

• All practices in the Lake Oswego area 

• Games are primarily on weekends, roughly every other weekend

• Tournament play primarily in the Greater Portland area, with some exceptions for certain grades/teams

Sample Schedule

Playing time

• Players in 4th & 5th will play a minimum of 50% of the game

• Players in 6th-8th will play a minimum of 30% of the game

• Minimums subject to player attendance and grade-appropriate behavior (effort and focus)

• LYB expects basketball to be primary sport for the season

• Missing practices due to other activities may affect playing time

Evaluations and team formation

• Two – 60 to 75 minute evaluation sessions

• Players are expected to attend both evaluation sessions

• LOHS basketball staff conducts evaluations, selects teams (with assistance from paid, non-parent, Laker Youth coaches)

• Evaluations are closed to parents

• Target roster size: 9-10 players (8 or 11 possible under certain circumstances)

• Cuts are possible

• Results will be posted to the website the Wednesday after the second tryout at 5pm. 

• Bib numbers will be used

Uniform: Reversible Jersey*, Shorts, Shooting Shirt

*Note:  there is a new reversible jersey this year and all players (even returning) will be required to purchase a new jersey.

Refunds

• Full Refund, minus a $15 administrative fee, if a player is not placed on a team OR elects not to play prior to team placement

• $100 Refund for a player who elects not to play following team placement but PRIOR to the team's first game

• No Refund for a player who elects not to play after the team's first game OR for games and/or practices cancelled by school districts, either Lake Oswego or opponents'
